The client requested that the upper section of an external chimney breast to the gable wall of his house be removed. The property was constructed of cavity brickwork with fully filled blown insulation to the cavity.
The brickwork to the chimney breast was carefully removed and the bricks cleaned for reuse. The existing brickwork either side of the chimney breast was toothed out ready to receive the new brickwork.
Glass fibre insulation batts were fitted into the cavity and the brickwork built up using the existing bricks laid and pointed to match the existing walling in a sand/lime/cement mortar. A vertical dpc (damp proof course) was installed to the side of the upper window. A once weathered precast concrete coping was bedded onto the lower section of the chimney breast to form an overhanging drip. This was then weathered using a code four lead flashing.
